overview
Breez is an imaginary bakery and coffee chain hoping to create and foster connections, helping them blossom in new and unexpected areas, like seeds of a dandelion.
As a Graphic Designer, I drew inspiration from designer Saul Bass's work to develop a cohesive brand identity for Breez, using bold colors and distinctive visuals. This included creating branding guidelines and additional mockups.
inspiration
Saul Bass is an American graphic designer, and we were inspired by his designs for movie title sequences and posters.
For our own brand identity, we pulled lessons from Bass's work and focused on:
simple, bold color palette
distinctive, unconventional visuals
central, concrete image that the brand revolves around
Ideation
moodboard
We started by getting a sense for the type of style and colors we'd want the interior of stores to look like. Our goal was to emulate the accent color harmony of Bass's posters, with orange as the main color.
brainstorming logos
When we first started brainstorming logos, we were focused on trying to directly mirrored foods and drinks.
But then we got feedback to try designs that are more abstract rather than focused on the bakery/cafe aspect.
We then tried a few more logos that captured the ideas of uniqueness, diversity, and connections.
shift in direction
As we were asking ourselves what could represent the brand's values, we suddenly thought…
How does a dandelion sound?
